Agent Trace - desktop daemon(captures coding-agent AI work)

Silent - local-first

Captures AI-assisted work inside coding agents - OpenCode, Codex and Hermes - with hashed provenance and zero workflow change. The daemon records locally; nothing uploads without your policy. Choose this package if you use AI inside a coding agent (CLI / IDE).

Harness coverage

These are the harnesses EGL Trace supports today. Each one is tested end to end, and each records automatically - there is nothing to run inside the harness.

OpenCode - silent plugin (installed and enabled for you)
Codex - lifecycle hooks, approved for you during install
Hermes - records straight from the Hermes session store, so there is nothing to remember

Enterprise - bring your own harness. Already running an agent we do not list? Enterprise customers integrate any harness through our canonical capture contract, and our team supports the custom build with you.

Individuals and students. New harnesses are added platform by platform, the same way an app reaches Android after iOS: we ship one only once it is properly tested, and we announce each as it lands. If yours is not listed yet, it is on the way rather than out of reach.

Install - AI Web Browser Extension

  1. 1. Open the EGL Trace listing on the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome (or Get in Edge, Brave or Arc).
  2. 2. Pin the extension and open its popup to see prompts as they're logged.
  3. 3. Sign in in the popup with the email and password you use on the Mr Q portal. No account yet? Click "Sign up on the Mr Q platform" in the popup or go to portal.qlabresearch.com/signup — free for individuals and students.
  4. 4. Sessions sync to your Mr Q EGL account (optional — sync can be turned off).

Install - Agent Trace

  1. 1. Unzip the downloaded egl-trace-agent.zip.
  2. 2. Run the installer. Windows requires the execution-policy flag (a stock Windows machine refuses to run any .ps1 without it):

    macOS / Linux:
    bash install.sh
    Needs Deno; the installer prints the one-liner if Deno is missing.
  3. 3. egl-trace init you@company.com 'Your Organisation' - one-time identity.
  4. 4. Wire the harness you use: egl-trace link opencode, link codex or link hermes. Codex asks for your approval once and the installer handles it; OpenCode and Hermes need nothing from you inside the harness.
  5. 5. Start the uploader and leave it running: egl-trace watch. Nothing starts it for you - while it is not running, sessions stay on this machine and never reach your Mr Q EGL account.
  6. 6. Work normally - capture is silent. egl-trace status to verify, and egl-trace status --check to see whether a newer version is available.

Already installed? Update to the latest version

Current version: 2026-09-14 (packed 2026-09-14). Updating replaces the agent's own files and keeps everything that is yours.

  1. 1. Check what you are running: egl-trace status --check - it prints your version and says whether a newer one exists.
  2. 2. Download the current zip above. The button is email-gated: the address has to match an approved Mr Q EGL account.
  3. 3. Close your harness (OpenCode, Codex or Hermes). The update stops a running egl-trace watch uploader itself if it finds one.
  4. 4. Unzip and run the update - the same script, one extra flag. Windows:
    powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\install.ps1 -Update
    macOS / Linux:
    bash install.sh --update
    Add -DryRun / --dry-run to see exactly what would change first.
  5. 5. Restart your harness so the new capture plugin loads, then restart the uploader: egl-trace watch.

What is preserved: your identity, your sign-in (no new password, no browser round-trip), your capture policy, your recorded sessions and your upload history. The update also makes a full backup of the previous install before it changes anything, and checks afterwards that every file the package contains is in place.

If something goes wrong: roll back with the backup folder the update printed - delete the install folder, rename the .egl-trace.bak-… folder to .egl-trace, and restart your harness.

Why updates matter: each release improves what the platform can measure for you - newer versions capture the agent's permission questions in text, carry your own opening and correction statements, and feed the oversight scores that were previously left blank.
